History of St. Bede Parish

St. Bede the Venerable was founded in 1953 under the leadership of its first pastor Father John P. Griffin. St. Bede school opened in 1955. After only three years, 1500 families called St. Bede home and almost 500 children were enrolled in the school. The first Mass in the present church was on Christmas Eve 1962 when construction was completed. Many improvements and changes have been made over the years in order to upkeep and update parish facilities, some of which are still works in progress. One of our newest endeavors is to reach out to everyone, parishioners and non-parishioners, with the parish’s new website: www.stbedechicago.org. Like so many other parishes, St. Bede can bring information to everyone via the internet, informing them of activities and happenings. Parish, School and Religious Education information are all available on the new site.
